Let me tell you something about cheesecake, I feel like you either love cheesecake, or you hate it. There is no “It’s alright”, or “I guess I could eat it”. My husband used to be a hate it fan, but ONLY because he had never tried cheesecake before! I was in shock, who has never tried cheesecake before? So a few years back we went to The Cheesecake Factory and of course had their cheesecake! That is where he fell in love with the decadent dessert. To this day cheesecake is our absolute favorite indulgent when we are craving something naughty. I am in the process of creating my Valentine’s Day Gift Guide as some of you may know. Which is why I contacted Eli’s Chicago Cheesecakes! When I think Valentine’s Day I think chocolate, and definitely cheesecake! The idea of going out on Valentine’s Day gives me a near anxiety attack, as I am sure everywhere will be packed! I figured we could enjoy a romantic night at home, with our very own cheesecake!
“Eli’s has been one of Chicago’s most iconic brands since the 1980’s, offering a wide variety of signature cheesecakes. They have been featured on the Food Network, the Jay Leno show, and several other national broadcasts. Additionally, they have created the honorary cheesecake for Presidential inaugurations, Chicago’s Birthday and many Chicagoland events.”
Eli’s sent me their Red Velvet Cheesecake to review! It retails for 41.95 on their website! I was excited to be receiving this flavor because I’ve never had a Red Velvet flavored cheesecake. The color is just perfect for the holiday, with it’s deep red color!
The first thing I noticed about the box was that it was really cold, which is important since these products get shipped all the way from Chicago! The cheesecake was on a sheet of dry ice to help keep the cheesecake frozen. The box was clearly labeled with warnings, and instructions on how to get the box out, and dispose of the box. The cheesecake itself was packaged really well, so I wouldn’t say you’d have to worry about damaged good upon arrival.
I opened the box, and I was super pleased to see that the cheesecake was already cut! Could you imagine having to thaw out an entire cheesecake of this size (9″ and serves 14) just to cut one slice out? I took a slice out to allow it to thaw out a bit before really digging into try it out!
Lets just say that once we started, there was no going back!
We tried every single layer individually and as a whole! The crust was made up of a chocolate cookie crust, my favorite kind of crust actually. The Red Velvet Cake alone was a bit dry (which happens when you freeze and thaw cake) however when it was ate all together it was a PERFECT balance of creamy of the cheesecake and the red velvet cake! Some cheesecakes are overly sweet and rich, but this one wasn’t like that at all. It was enough to satisfy my sweet tooth, but not have a belly ache afterwards because of the massive amount of sugar!
So some of you are thinking why would I order offline to buy a cheesecake! I am here to tell you because it is DELICIOUS, and the flavors are just ridiculous. The picture above is their Hot Chocolate Cheesecake! It retails for 37.95 and serves 14 people! That is on average 2.71 a slice, and you can’t find find cheesecake cheaper then that at a restaurant for Valentine’s Day.
Cheesecake is the perfect gift for ANY holiday, and a just because gift! So, keep that in the back of your mind. If you EVER want to send me something just because you love me so much, a cheesecake is ALWAYS more then welcome! However it’s got to be Eli’s Chicago Cheesecake!!!
